DANNY Rose equaliser clinched a draw for Grimsby against Newport County at Rodney Parade. The match began with a goalless first half but later saw ex-Town star Omar Bogle scoring for Newport, only for Rose to level soon after following a brilliant assist from Gavan Holohan.

Unchanged Town started well with Glennon and Eisa looking dangerous on the left. Newport though stepped up a gear and looked the more likely to score. Notable moments included a blocked shot by Shane McLoughlin, and a vital interception by Clifton to deny Bogle. From the resulting corner, Rose made a goal-line clearance.

The second half continued with Newport creating the majority of the chances. They nearly took the lead with a strike from Palmer-Houlden that hit the bar, and Town answered with a series of attacks but failed to threaten much despite a lot of possession. The breakthrough came in the 68th minute when a cross from Payne which was cleared and played back to Bogle who scored for Newport from close range.

Town responded quickly to the goal with a double substitution, Green and Holohan replaced Conteh and Hunt respectively. Their move paid off quickly when Holohan's excellent cross found Rose, who netted the equalizer. The final minutes saw Grimsby finish on top with Newport happy to hang on for a point.

Grimsby did not do enough to deserve the win. They started strongly and finished well, but Newport were on top for long periods and had more good chances. It wasn't a vintage performance but a point gained and the Mariners remain undefeated in the league since the departure of Paul Hurst - although the first away win still eludes them.

Town next play in the league against Harrogate Town at Blundell Park on Saturday.
