Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

3 Up 3 Down #1

52 people have entered this year and once again there is a big vote for Blackburn to go up. By far the most popular predictions were that Crewe and Gillingham would go down - over 70% went for one, or both, to be relegated. You could say they will be super bottom.

Blackburn were the most predicted Champions, with Birmingham voted the most times as second place. Blackburn received the most votes for third too, an interesting concept. Having their cake and eating it I'd say.

In all 12 different teams were predicted as promotees (no-one was rash enough to go for Town), and 14 different clubs were expected to be relegated. There were two clubs voted "both ways" - Wimbledon and Wolves.

I have done a little analysis of our collective mind and (on the basis of apportioning ranking points) we predict the final table as follows :-

1Blackburn
2Sheff Wed
3Fulham
4Birmingham
5Watford
6Barnsley
7Bolton
8Wimbledon
9Huddersfield
10QPR
11Notts Forest
12Wolves
13Norwich
14Sheff Utd
15Portsmouth
16West Brom
17Tranmere
18Preston
19Burnley
20GRIMSBY TOWN
21Crystal Palace
22Stockport
23Crewe
24Gillingham

The Separate Town points and position predictions were most illuminating. An average of 18th with 53 points, skewed slightly by a few optimists. 10 people went for 21st and 4 for 20th (so couldn't quite bring themselves to predict doom). In all 10 went for Town to be relegated. So nearly half expect us to be in the bottom 5, battling against relegation right up to the end. What an enjoyable season it's going to be.

We'll see how accurate we have been next May. Updates at irregular intervals.
