Three New Players!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 06/09/2000

Lennie Lawrence has wasted no time since joining Grimsby to search for players capable of bringing success to Town and ensuring our survival in the first division. Our first foreign trialist, Jason Batty from New Zealand, has now been joined by 3 more overseas players.

Juan Manuel Prieto Velasco from Spain, Sascha Lenhart from Germany, and Moises Alvarez Goya (also from Spain) have been brought in on trial and if they are deemed to be good enough, Grimsby have the option to offer them contracts. The three players will be arriving in Grimsby shortly and will be starting their trial period next Monday. This is good news for everyone. It, at least, shows the determination of Lennie Lawrence and is a major change in the fortunes of Grimsby Town. The last foreign player on the books was Ivano Bonetti and these new trialists are bringing an international look to the Mariners, who are almost unique in the modern game in having an entirely British first team squad. Whatever the outcome of the trials, Lennie Lawrence should be congratulated for the swift action he has taken to change things around. Town's fans, accustomed over the years to announcements that former West Brom players have joined the club, will hopefully have some more glamorous signings to look forward to over the course of the next few weeks.
