Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

The New Messiah

By: Nick Osborne
Date: 17/10/2000

What can I say? This is the first time for a long time that I have been this excited coming home from a game! Not since Wembley have I had such a sore throat. The first half was a bit of an anticlimax. Town started the better team and looked in control for the first 20 to 25 minutes.

Unfortunately, we didn't score when we were creating the pressure. QPR got a corner, and scored.

It sounds simple, and it was. The ball seemed to be in slow motion, passed everyone and QPR's Connolly put it away. Easy as that. Town lost their edge after this and the rest of the 1st half is probably worth forgetting.

2nd half

Lennie Lawrence had the wisdom to swap Campbell for Livvo, playing 3 up front and we looked brilliant! The Great Dane, Livvo and the oh so reliable Allen. This threesome is going to frighten the so called big boys in this division when they see this on video. As you already know, we WON 3-1. A fantastic and well deserved result.

Now for the best bit of all. This is the first game for a long while that the atmosphere has been electric. Every time we got the ball we were on our feet. When did you last hear of that?

The team where brilliant in the 2nd half. David Nielsen will go a long way if he plays like this every game. He is a a good, fast, skillful player, the likes of which haven't been seen at BP for quite a while. No disrespect to the rest of the squad, they all played well, but this guy brought loads of flair and even more enthusiasm. He was in his element urging the crowd on every time he came near the Pontoon. His double somersault after his goal was great to watch.

Town fans have a new hero, now lets ALL (those who can that is) get down to BP and cheer this bloke and the team on. He can, and has delivered! For himself and for Livvo. He wants to be here, let's make him welcome at the next home game.

Long live the Messiah!

One David Nielsen, there's only one David Nielsen, one David Nielsen, there's only one David Nielsen!

Tony Butcher's report will follow later.
