Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Nielsen to Start

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 16/10/2000

Danish forward, David Nielsen will be in the starting lineup when the Mariners meet QPR at Blundell Park tomorrow night. With Pouton, McDermott and Livingstone having fitness problems, Lennie Lawrence will be looking to field Nielsen from the kick off.

This will please Nielsen who today expressed his pleasure at being in Grimsby and said he was delighted to be part of the winning team. The fans will also be pleased with that decision after the ovation he received on Saturday for the speed and skill he displayed during his 20 minutes in the game.

The ticket office at Blundell Park said that it has been very busy today with ticket sales for the match as fans are wanting to see the new player.

Other QPR Team news

Town midfielder Alan Pouton is doubtful for the game, having picked up a knee injury during Saturday's match against Huddersfield. John McDermott and Paul Raven are also doubtful due to continuing injury problems, although Macca is said to be "close" to being back in contention for a place in the squad.

Loan Player

Another player to arrive for a trial this week is Thomas Zvirgzdauskas a defender in polish club Polonia Warsaw.

Other News

In other news, Lennie Lawrence is trying to get Leicester midfield player Campbell, presently on loan with the Mariners, to stay longer and he is talking to the Leicester officials in an attempt to extend the loan period.
