The Trialists Debate

FRED:
Admit it Bert. Lennie has gone too far with these trialists. We finished the Fulham game with 4 trialists who had never played together. It hardly makes a settled team.

BERT:
Maybe not, but we didn't do as bad as many others against Fulham and anyway we have injuries.

FRED:
Buckley scratched teams out week in week out without all these newcomers.

BERT:
And we criticised him for NOT bringing in new faces. Seems to me you want to moan at Lennie whatever he does. Bring in new faces shouts everyone, but when he does they say whoa hang on.

FRED:
Yeah but we've got about five foreigners now that the Chinese player has arrived, and there's even two English lads playing for the reserves in the Lincs cup alongside the New Zealand goalie Batty. On top of that we've the Newcastle under 19 goalie on trial too. That's 4 goalies at the moment we're paying for.

BERT:
Like I say it'll all come out in the wash. At least the lads Lennie is bringing in have potential. If they we're totally out their depth we'd be in the bottom three but we've survived November and at least we get a few home games now.

FRED:
Survived November!! We got murdered in November.

BERT:
Yeah but we knew we would anyway. Christ we played the top sides away from home and with a weakened squad. At least it is behind us now.

FRED:
Anyway who's paying the wages and travel and accommodation for all these new blokes anyway?

BERT:
Dunno. Maybe it's Sky TV money. I do think it means that Lennie is due to scrap a few players soon though. I can't see Kingsley or Dave Smith staying much longer.

FRED:
Yeah I don't think Lennie rates Smithy. Shame. Young Buckley may have to go too. and Clare should sign for Northampton soon. Raven is a bit out of his depth maybe.

BERT:
We've got about 31 in the squad now so some must go, and there's a few youngsters may ask to go cos they must be wondering how they'll ever break through.

FRED:
One things for sure. After years of nothing happening under Buckley, I don't think us supporters can handle all this sudden excitement.

BERT:
Well as soon as we hit our next winning run and Lennie settles his squad I expect great things. Wait and see.
