Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Club Statement

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 05/12/2000

Grimsby Town vice-chairman Bryan Huxford has issued a statement to The Fishy prior to tonight's NELC meeting at Grimsby Town Hall, calling for those who attend to remain calm and dignified throughout the proceedings.

Mr. Huxford issued the following statement on Tuesday evening:

I am sure that all the supporters who attend tomorrow's vital Council meeting will be conscious of the need to uphold the good name and image of the Club.

Opponents of the stadium have portrayed all football fans as 'hooligans'. We know that is not true and every fan can prove it by his or her behaviour on the night. If there is any abuse or provocation from the people who are against the stadium, ignore it. They would be only too happy to cause a disturbance that could be blamed on Mariners fans!

Polite and dignified behaviour outside the Council offices, and polite and dignified applause when you hear something you like at the meeting itself, is the best possible way of showing your support.

Through our dignity and our unity we shall give the Club the best chance of getting the new stadium everyone wants.

Thank you.

Bryan Huxford
Vice Chairman
Grimsby Town FC

The Fishy can only echo the sentiments of Mr Huxford, and assure all concerned that we will remain committed to the aims and objectives of Grimsby Town Football Club whatever the decision of NELC may be.

Grimsby Town Football Club can do little more and the fate of the club may well rest on the support shown at the council meeting.
