Nielsen Deal Doomed

It has emerged this evening that Grimsby Town's attempts to sign David Nielsen have all but failed. Mariners boss Lennie Lawrence is refusing to give in to the Dane's wage demands and it appears that the gap between the two parties has become a chasm.

In the latest twist of what is rapidly developing into a farce, Nielsen's agent, Poul Erik Pedersen, told Danish journalists that there was very little hope of a successful conclusion to talks between the two sides: "There is probably too far a distance between the two parties for a deal to be struck," commented Pedersen as it became clear that Grimsby's attempts to sign the player, dubbed 'The Messiah' by fans, were set for failure. "It's a bit sad because Grimsby would have been a good stop for David on the way to something bigger and better. There are some other contacts, but nothing serious." Having demanded an incredible £6,000 per week wage, Grimsby fans have recently become split over whether or not Nielsen should be allowed to hold the club to ransom. It now appears that the gambit has failed and that Lennie Lawrence must now look elsewhere as he continues his re-building of the Grimsby Town squad.
