Dyer Interest Confirmed

By: Peter Forrester
Date: 21/01/2001

Lennie Lawrence has admitted that Bruce Dyer is high up his wanted list along with Braford Striker Gareth Grant. The Grimsby boss is keen to sign the transfer listed striker as the Mariners are sure to lose Danish superman David Nielsen when his loan runs out at the end of this month.

"We're looking for a loan player who can come in and do a job for us and he obviously fits into that category" said Lawrence

Dyer had agreed to move to Gillingham, but the move collapsed and this was the break Lawrence wanted resulting in a "polite enquiry" to then manager Dave Basset. Things have since changed at the Yorkshire club with new manager Nigel Spackman taking up the reigns, since which there has been no contact between the two clubs.

Barnsley are surprisingly close to the relegation zone which is a factor that Lennie Lawrence has taken into account commenting "I haven't made an enquiry (to Spackman) and I'd be quite pleasantly surprised if they said yes because they are in a similar situation to us in the league"

With Nielsen going and no end of names being linked with Grimsby the Town boss has a few decisions coming his way and each one will be an important one if the Mariners are to stay in Division 1.
