Selection Problems

By: Richard Lord
Date: 07/02/2001

Grimsby Town boss Lennie Lawrence faces a selection headache for the trip to Gillingham. Midfielders Alan Pouton and Menno Willems will miss out, along with Steve Livingstone who is banned. Coldicott and Butterfield are also in doubt.

"It's midfield where we are short. Stacy's ahead of Danny fitness-wise and if he makes it, it gives me options with Kev," said Lawrence. "We have Kingsley Black as well and he comes into the equation," continued the Town boss of the left winger who has been missing from the Grimsby squad since the defeat at home to Bolton.

There may be some shuffling around in the Mariners squad for the match at the Priestfield Stadium. With players short in midfield, the former Luton manager may be tempted to use Paul Groves as a midfielder and Richard Smith could play alongside Enhua in defence. Lawrence will also be keen to play Donovan in midfield but may be forced to play him behind lone-striker Michael Jeffrey if the injuries don't clear up in time.
