Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Transfer Deadline

By: Jostein Jensen
Date: 21/03/2001

Tomorrow, Thursday, at 16.00 GMT is the transfer deadline in England. Signals from Blundell Park the last few days indicate that Town boss Lennie Lawrence is looking for a goalie and a striker before the bell rings.

But it's also expected to bring in some bids for Grimsby players today or tomorrow. Players that are bought after the deadline cannot be used this season. But there are occasions when it is allowed to use a player in a match that doesn't count for promotion or relegation.

The FA can also allow players signed after the deadline to replace current players with long-term injury problems.

There is some speculation about whom the foreign striker can be with Lennie only able to afford a loan with the current economical situation. The search for a new 'keeper is not a cover for Coyne who is rumoured to be targeted by Premier giants.

"It's true that I'm looking for another keeper on loan but that's just a precautionary measure in case Danny or Steve Croudson gets injured. I want someone with at least one hundred first-team games behind them and we have a few names in mind. If people want to read anything more into that, they are mistaken," explained Lennie Lawrence.
