Town Agree New Shirt Sponsor Deal

By: Fishy News Team
Date: 04/06/2001

THE MARINERS have agreed a new one year extension to the sponsorship deal with the club's main shirt advertisers Dixon Motors. The car retailers will continue to support Grimsby for the forthcoming season, and have negotiated an option to further their backing for an additional year beyond that.

The 12 month agreement, believed to be worth a five figure sum, will continue to see the club's shirts made by Avec, despite Town's kit supplier having gone into receivership just before Christmas 2000.

A club spokesman told Radio Humberside that the Mariners were delighted with the new package. "It means that we've got the stability of another season with a major sponsor. Dixons have been very good to us and we want to continue the relationship."

Hull-based Dixon Motors have sponsored Grimsby Town since 1998, with the Avec shirts having been used continuously since that year's triumphant AWS Final against Bournemouth at Wembley Stadium. Bryan Huxford, then Vice Chairman of Grimsby, agreed a rescue package with Avec shortly after the company went into receivership and turned the shirt suppliers' fortunes around.

Next season's new strip is expected to go on sale to the public early next month.
