John Cockerill Extends His Contract With Town

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 30/05/2001

GRIMSBY TOWN Football Club announced today that John Cockerill has signed a two year extension to his current deal at Blundell Park. Cockers has been with the club as a player, community Officer and Youth team coach before becoming Lennie Lawrence's assistant manager in 1997.

Cockers told Mariners Net, "The club approached me about furthering the deal here and after a few discussions, everything was agreed and of course, I'm extremely pleased to pledge my future to Grimsby Town. We've all got a bit of a break now and then we'll be back to work to prepare for the new season. Once again it's a tough division but we're all looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead."

Chairman Peter Furneaux stated, "John is a local lad who has always said he wants to stay with Grimsby Town, and naturally the club are more than happy that he has agreed to an extension of his present contract, which is a further two years on top of the original year he had left on the previous deal."
