Lawrence Denies Mohan Move - Danish Link Rumour

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 15/06/2001

GRIMSBY TOWN boss Lennie Lawrence has once again silenced the rumour mill by declaring that he has no interest in Stoke City centre back Nicky Mohan. The 30-old-defender, who spent three years at Middlesbrough under Lawrence and later at Bradford, was linked with Town earlier this week.

Rumours were that Lawrence was looking at Mohan who fell out with with Stoke boss Gudjon Thordarsen but Lennie dispelled that by saying "People are just linking me because I had him with me at Bradford and Middlesbrough."

In the meantime, Lawrence is still waiting to hear from Handyside and Burnett, having lost interest in Kevin Donovan who looks certain to leave Blundell Park in July. He will also be monitoring the Groves situation with yesterday's reports that Alan Buckley has targeted him to become his number two.

The big question now must be where Lawrence is going to get replacements for the back four positions that will have been decimated if first choice pairing Handyside and Groves leave.

In addition to that, there has been very little visible progress regarding the striker situation despite the Mariners having been without a recognised striker for almost two seasons. There has been no further news on the Cornwall move, which leaves Town with Bradley Allen and Steve Livingstone.

However the transfer market is beginning to move again as people return from holidays which means we might see some further action in the near future.

One of our Scandinavian correspondents has suggested that one of the players that Lennie has been looking at is an out of contract full-back called Piotr Haren who has struggled to get any first-team football since joining FCK.
