Slipped Through the Net Update

By: Dan Humphrey
Date: 03/07/2001

AS THE END of the season is upon us, Dan Humphrey takes a quick glance at the progress of players featured in the "Slipped Through the Net" series, looking at former Town players still plying their trade in the game, so far.…

Home > Features  > Slipped Through the Net > Update #1

  • Aidan Davison: After a season of bench warming, it was nice to see Aidan get a run out in Bradford's local derby with Leeds. Pity that Aidy let in 6 goals, probably more than Stevie Croudson has in his entire first team career! At least when at Blundell Park, he made the N.Ireland squad.....
Prediction: Davison to keep warming the Bradford bench in Division I.

  • John Oster: Oster's career still seems to be on hold! When he did a chance in the Sunderland first team, he promptly got himself sent off against Leicester. Correction: having watched Match Of The Day - it was Robbie Savage's fault. Add to that the emergence of wonderkid Julio Arca on the Wearside wing, a certain future Argentina international, and it might just for Johnny boy to move on?
Prediction: A Div I move might suit John - and I heard Wolves were interested.

  • Nicky Southall: Available on a Bosman and apparently being chased by Bolton, so could join the Premiership next season! Crikey.
Prediction: Looks likely to become Bolton squad player.

  • Andy Tillson: Have a feeling he made the Div II team of the season. By all accounts doing well at Walsall.
Prediction: into Division One by the play-offs?

  • Tommy Widdrington: Released by Port Vale.
    Prediction: Scunthorpe perhaps????

  • Gary Croft: Edged out of Ipswich first team by new boy Chris Makin, so now dependent on injuries/excellent form for first team chances next season.
Prediction: Comes off bench in UEFA Cup final next year to score winner for Ipswich versus AC Milan.

  • Lee Nogan: Banged in loads of goals for York at the end of the season.
Prediction: I guess York will want to keep him...

  • Jack Lester: Didn't recover from midseason injury, and without him Forest faltered. Future depends on who leaves City Ground this summer to pay the debts...
Prediction: Forms deadly partnership with David Platt up front as Forest forced to sell all other strikers to raise money!

Look out for more Slipped Thru The Net reports in the coming weeks/months/decade.
