Who will win League 2?

Bill Carr and Co To Sell Shares To Huxford

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 06/07/2001

IN a surprise announcement today, Bill Carr and some of his ex-board members have confirmed that they have agreed to sell their shares to Bryan Huxford to support his takeover bid of the Mariners.

Former chairman Bill Carr together with ex-board members Clive and Terry Aspinall and Stephen Bygott have agreed to sell Hux their shares with many smaller shareholders also offering theirs to him at the offered price of £2.50 for every £1 share in the club.

He needs 76 per cent of the share capital to assume control and these latest acquisitions will bring his total holdings to almost 70,000 shares, which is almost the same total that Dudley Ramsden holds at 26%, but he cannot achieve his aim without Ramsden's shares.

In a press release to the Grimsby Telegraph today the men said: 'Major shareholders Terry and Clive Aspinall, Bill Carr and Steve Bygott have received Bryan Huxford's offer to purchase their substantial holding in Grimsby Town Football Club and state that it is not their wish to hinder the future development of the club in any way and, in particular, the new stadium project.

"They also state that they have, and always have had, the best interests of 'The Mariners' at heart and any move to maintain first division status must come first on any agenda."

"Therefore, considering Mr Huxford has made it well known that funding is available for the progression of the club and the new stadium, they have decided to support his intentions."

Mr Huxford said "It has always been my wish to take this club forward and I believe the best way to do that is by having one person in control."
