Brian Laws Delighted with Town's Generosity

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/08/2001

STEVE CROUDSON tonight will play for Scunthorpe against Rotherham after the Iron have received the nod from the Mariners to field the Grimsby shot stopper in goal . Town's 2nd choice keeper is on a month's loan at Glanford Park, and the decision means that Croudson would be cup-tied in later rounds.

"...That's excellent from our neighbours..."

Iron boss Brian Laws was delighted with the gesture, as Scunthorpe first choice 'keeper Tommy Evans was injured in their opening game against Kidderminster, leaving Laws with a goalkeeping crisis on his hands for the Rotherham tie. "That's excellent from our neighbours". the former Town boss told Radio Humberside. "It's important that you keep good relations with your neighbouring clubs for when you are desperate."

The 20-year-old Grimbarian made his Scunthorpe debut in United's 2-1 reverse at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Sadly Newcastle United have not afforded Grimsby the same generosity, with the Magpies unwilling to allow loan signing David Beherall to play in tomorrow's Worthington Cup tie with Lincoln City at Blundell Park (7.45pm), despite being about seventh in the St James's Park pecking order in central defence.
