Broomes Signs Up For Another Month

LENNIE LAWRENCE has signed up Blackburn defender Marlon Broomes for a further month on loan, and news of an extension to fellow loanee David Beharall's spell at Blundell Park is expected shortly. Lawrence is now believed to be looking for a season long loan for the Newcastle defender.

The Grimsby boss is looking to bring in a right-sided defender on loan to cover for injury-struck right back John McDermott. With only two month-long loans allowed concurrently from British clubs, freeing up one short-term loan slot would allow the Town manager to bring in a domestic player in that position.

Alternatively, up to five foreign loan players are allowed at any one time, although the minimum loan period is three months for an overseas player, so Lawrence may be tempted to look abroad, particularly Scandinavia where the season has just finished, for new blood to strengthen his leaking defence.

Lawrence told Mariners Net: "We have extended Marlon, who I thought did quite well when he came on. That's done - he's here for another month."

Broomes pleaded with Lennie Lawrence not to leave Blundell Park for the purgatory of Ewood Park reserves! "I said to the gaffer: 'You know if I'm going to go back to Blackburn.'". said Broomes (23). "But I made it clear to him that I didn't want to go. You know there's nothing worse than going back to training with seven to eight reserve team players trying to get a session running. You know I don't want that. I've played reserve team football and I'm sick of that now. I just want to go out there - start playing first team football. I just want to get a contract sorted. Wherever it been, maybe here, maybe elsewhere I just want to be settled and start playing football again."

Town face Liverpool on Tuesday night in what could be a severe test for Lawrence's demoralised troops after a poor string of results, culminating in the abject performance against Rotherham on Friday night.
