Lennie Lawrence Slams the Critics!!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 29/10/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE showed his annoyance with the critics today saying it is about time people gave his players a break and stopped moaning about their recent bad run. He was angry that reports highlighted the fact that a loss to against Brum, would have been the club's worst run of defeats since 1909

He said. "I'm happy to disappoint the headline writers and I hope it's another 92 years before we lose six on the trot and all that crap." (Oops! Sorry Lennie!)

"Expectations sometimes are unrealistic at Blundell Park this is little Grimsby - we haven't got million pound players. We have £150 - £250,000 players and they have to play like million pound players and when they don't, everybody's on their case every five minutes - it's a joke."

On Ben Chapman, Lawrence confirmed he will be in the squad for the Game against Norwich tomorrow night but will be playing him out of his usual position after showing he could play in an unfamiliar position at right-back in place of Alan Neilson, who has a calf injury.

Chapman was brought on as right-back just before the end of the first half of the Birmingham game and Lawrence said he was happy with what he saw. "Ben has done very well he's never played there before. It's a problem position for us, what with the injury to John McDermott and now Alan, but I think I might have found a solution in Ben.

"I thought he slotted in exceptionally well and just did the basics and looked the part. I know he's a left footed player but it didn't show and he's got to get a go now."
