Manager Lawrence Says Result Very Harsh

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 02/12/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE spoke out after the defeat against Manchester City yesterday, berating the front line. Although he thought the result was very harsh, he said the Mariners had given one of their best performances of the season.

"The game had evolved around two things, a contentious penalty, I don't know if it was or not, what I do know is that if it takes place and you give a player a chance to go down in front of two thousand fanatical supporters, you are going to get it given against you, especially if you are a small club.

Praising the defence and midfield, he was not pleased with the strikers declaring "We have had enough balls into the box today to win two games, never mind one. To say we lacked the 'finishing touch' would have been kind."

This latest defeat must make the cloud hanging over Lennie's future even darker and with another tough opponent in Wolves next Friday, three points are needed for Lennie to fulfil his wish list of 4 points from the last 3 games and the coming Wolves game.
