A Brilliant Point Says Graham Rodger

Graham Rodger praised the Mariners' after their 1-1 draw at Rotherham last night. "I thought the lads were magnificent and it was good for us to score the goal because it gave us something to protect and the confidence seemed to be back in the side."

"There have been some indifferent performances of late but this performance was good and the result was excellent so overall I'm quite happy. They had to stand up and be counted and they did. They put their bodies on the line because that was the nature of the game out there tonight."

To the Grimsby Telegraph he said: "The important thing is the result. Performances don't matter. When you don't get performances or a result, then it's worrying. But here there were some fantastic battling performances and it's a vital point away from home. It might only be one point for us, but it's two points they can't get any more." Ronnie Moore claimed his team was robbed of a clear win but Rodger said "My response to that is, I came and watched the Crewe and Rotherham game on Saturday, when Crewe won 4-2, and I've never seen a more one-sided game than that one."

"Rotherham had to chase this game, we didn't. They did cause havoc and create a few half-chances, but over the course of the game we were value for a point. In this game we went back to how it first was when we took over. The players have redeemed a couple of poor performances with a scrappy point."

"We knew what we were going to get when we came here and we weren't disappointed. You have to appreciate that when we play this system, we are going to concede ground and possession. But there was always a body there to clear the danger when the crosses came in."

On Robert Taylor's he said: "We had a bit of a joke about it before the game. He said he was due a goal and he played very well. He took his chance very well and he's looking fitter all the time. He's a potent force."
