Buckley Leaves Imps

FORMER Grimsby Town boss Alan Buckley has left Sincil Bank for financial reasons. The ailing Third Division club, currently in administration, released Buckley from his contract as Lincoln manager this afternoon "on purely financial grounds".
The former Baggies boss, who still lives in the Grimsby area, joined Lincoln just over a year ago, after having been dismissed from Blundell Park in August 2000 after twelve successful years (in two spells) as Grimsby manager.
Ironically, shortly after joining the Imps, Buckley tried to install Town's current player-boss Paul Groves (then just a player) as his No. 2, but Groves was persuaded to stay at Blundell Park after being offered a coaching role at the club.
Lincoln No. 2 Keith Alexander, another former Mariner, has been appointed as caretaker manager at the Third Division club for the time being.
A statement on the club's official web site read: "This decision has been made on purely financial grounds based on advice given by Begbies Traynor, who are guiding the club in this crisis period.
"The club wishes to express their gratitude to Alan for his work over the last 14 months and for his professional approach, honesty and integrity in that time."
