UEFA Cup Stars To Visit Blundell Park

By: Dan Humphrey
Date: 30/05/2002

A TOP European side will play at Blundell Park next season. A side that last season defeated Torpedo Moscow, Helsingborg and Inter Milan..

And they beat Spurs (twice), Everton, Middlesborough, Fulham, Leicester, Sunderland and Derby (twice). Before being relegated from the Premiership.

Ipswich Town are that side, and will enter the UEFA Cup next season.

Thanks to the Fifa Fair Play League, next season's Division One will include a side playing European football. The Tractor Boys were drawn out of the hat alongside a Czech side called Sigma Olomouc, beating 15 other sides for a Fair Place place.

The Fishy understands that Sigma Olomouc will NOT be playing the Mariners next season. Or ever.

Trivia question: when was the last time a side involved in European competition played at Blundell Park in the same season? Answers on the Message Board!
