Another Trialist For Town

GRIMSBY Town have handed a trial to American winger Jake Sagare, the Sports Telegraph reports. The 22-year old currently plays for USA League side Portland Timbers and has paid his own flight fair to join up with the Mariners.

Sagare holds a British passport because his father was born in the UK but emigrated to the States after his family came into money unexpectedly. The Yakima-born attacker played four years for the University of Washington.

He has played just one full season as a professional for Portland Timbers but he is now hoping to make it big in England after he was spotted and recommended to Grimsby by Sean McAuley.

"I've just had training and a practice game so far. Everything here is quite new to me but I'm hoping to play for the Reserves next week. I can play striker as well as on the wing," said Sagare, who is joined by Australian Jason Dimozantos on trial this week at Blundell Park.

Town's assistant boss Graham Rodger said he was a quick player with a lot of raw talent. "The person who recommended him knew Michael Boulding as a youngster and said there were similarities," added Rodger.
