Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

We can Win At Wolves - Cooke

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 24/10/2002

TERRY Cooke talked to the Grimsby Telegraph today about former Manchester United team-mate Dennis Irwin, describing him as British football's best ever full-back who will be playing against the Mariners on Saturday!

"He's a great player. He can use both feet, is a great defender and is good on the ball. He's the best full-back I've ever seen and probably the best there's ever been playing in this country."

"He is just fantastic. At United he would come in, do his job and you knew what you were getting. Week-in, week-out he would be outstanding. He was one of the unsung heroes for United and it was only when he came to the end of his time there that everybody realised what a big part he played."

"He could still be playing in the Premiership now and he'll bring a lot of experience to the Wolves side."

Cooke has backed the Mariners to pull off a shock at Molineux.

"I think going there will suit us. It's a nice ground and a big stadium and they'll get the ball down and play. That's what we like to do and when we play against footballing teams it brings out the best in us."

On George Santos Cooke said: "We have to keep him and Kabbs. George gives us a big physical presence and the lads are only just getting to know how Kabbs plays. We didn't see it last week because George got sent off, but Livvo and Kabbs could link up well if they get the chance.

"Kabbs has got great pace and likes the ball in front of him and Livvo can drop off and shield it. But George and Kabbs could play a big part this season and we have to keep them. We've only got a small squad and we need as many bodies as possible."
