Livvo Sees Red!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 27/01/2003

STEVE Livingstone has blasted the Bradford defender in the tunnel after Saturday's game and accused him of cheating and conning the referee. Livvo intends to appeal against his sending off for an alleged forearm smash.

A furious Livvo to the Grimsby Telegraph said: "I told him after the game that I thought he was a cheat. He said that he didn't cheat and that I had touched him with my arm," fumed Livingstone, who now faces an automatic three-match ban for violent conduct.

"That incident totally changed the course of the game. I feel like I've been cheated and that the club has been cheated."

"All that happened was that I was trying to squeeze by him and there was nothing in it. I tried to get past him and the next thing I heard was a squeal. There was no contact at all - he milked it."

"He made a big deal of it and I'm disgusted with his reaction. I wasn't even expecting a booking but before I knew it the referee was there with the red."

"It was him running into me more than anything and I just helped him on his way as he fell. He squealed, and the card was out."

"I'll be appealing because there was no way I should have been sent off. If I'd have elbowed him I'd be full or remorse, apologise and hold my hands up."

"But I haven't apologised to anybody in the dressing room because there's nothing to apologise for."

"There was a bit of clash of heads between myself and their player (Molenaar) but it was accidental so I stayed on my feet."

"It was me who came off the worst in that and I could have gone down. That was a total accident and I kept going."

"They're talking about three match bans and we can't afford any suspensions. Our injuries are bad enough and I just feel completely cheated."

Molenaar said "People know I'm not the kind who tries to get another professional sent off. I play hard but fair. The referee was three yards away and made the decision immediately."

"He (Livingstone) came across with his elbow and made contact. He needs to look at himself in the mirror."
