Who will win League 2?

Kevin Donovan Fans Piece

A fan's view of former Grimsby Town player Kevin Donovan, who looks back at his time at Blundelll Park and how he was perceived by the fans during that time.

Fans Piece
Kevin Donovan was a fleet-footed traditional right winger who could beat his man and put in some excellent crosses. He held all the tricks a wide player needs to beat a defender as well as being a decent crosser of the ball.

Donovan was a small and perhaps lightweight part of the team but he had the skill and energy to perform well in his role down the right. The best part of his game was a skill normally attributed to a striker but he had the canny knack of being in the right place at the right time. His ability to link up with the strikers proved its worth in his final season when he played more of an advanced but central role in the team.

One of his best goals came against Fulham in the Play-Off semi final at Blundell Park. The tie was finely balanced and Donovan had had a quiet game but he popped up in the final ten minutes to slot home the goal that took us to Wembley - where he scored another goal to win Grimsby promotion.

One can only wonder what he would have achieved the next season if it weren't for the injury that kept him out of the side for so long. He scored some great goals in his last season with the Mariners. There was his solo effort away against Fulham, and two crackers against Crewe and Wycombe, both at Blundell Park.
