Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Crunch Time For Mariners!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 07/04/2003

CRUNCH time has arrived at Blundell Park after Town lost at Leicester on Saturday. The team now face Wolves tomorrow night and Crystal Palace on Saturday knowing that 4 points is the minimum they need from these two games if they are to have any hopes of avoiding relegation.

Paul Groves is confident the team has the spirit to carry them through saying of them on Saturday; "They kept going and they will keep going, because they are honest and they will give their whack, because they are desperate to do well for this football club and themselves".

"For 60 minutes we certainly gave a good account of ourselves and in the first half we had a decent spell. If we were to be critical we needed a bit more of a cutting edge but we had a good spell with plenty of corners and we had good possession as well."

Big bear Santos was even more specific telling the Grimsby Telegraph; "If we want to stay in the first division we have to win on Tuesday and we have to win on Saturday. They're tough games, but that is what we have to do."

"Wolves want to get in the play-offs and are already in the top places. It won't be easy and they have got decent players, like this Leicester team. But we will be okay for Tuesday. If we are positive, like we have been in the last five or six weeks, then it will be no problem."

"We were disappointed and to lose 2-0 is a bit harsh. But we are positive for Tuesday. We played well and there was some good football in the first half and in the first 15 minutes of the second half."

"We have to take all of that into Tuesday and I'm sure the fans will come and it will be a busy night. Wolves will bring quite a few fans, too, because it is not far for them and it will be a tough, tough game - but very exciting."

The other part of the team, the supporters, will have to play their part too by turning up and getting behind the troops and urging them on. Paul Groves said once before that having the crowd behind them is like having an extra man on the field and Grimsby Town might need two extra men if they are to beat play-off hopefuls Wolves.
