BRIGG Town brought more honours for Lincolnshire in the Northern Counties Premier League winning a second FA Vase trophy in seven years when Steve Carter curled in a free kick from 25 yards out in the closing minutes.
The Lincolnshire side also won the competition at Wembley in 1996. Sudbury boss Keith Martin who was bowing out of football after this game, wanted to add the cup to their third Eastern League title in three years but Brigg were too strong for his side.
Brigg took the lead in the second minute when Steve Housham rifled a shot from the edge of the area which easily beat keeper Dean Greygoose.
Sudbury gradually settled and drew level with their first real effort on goal when Terry Rayner swooped on a loose ball to equalise.
Both sides played better in the second half with Greygoose keeping Brigg at bay with some brilliant saves. Brigg were then awarded a free-kick on the right wing and 34-year-old Carter curled it in to claim the winner.
