Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Lillehammer Deal In Doubt!

By: Jostein Jensen
Date: 30/10/2003

A co-operation deal between FF Lillehammer and Grimsby Town FC has been placed in jeopardy as FFL have been relegated from the Norwegian 2nd division. Next season they will have to play in the 3rd division, which compares with the Conference League.

The deal, which was reported on the Fishy on 6th July may not now go ahead

"We were well into progress with Grimsby Town. We were supposed to go over there in November. Now I don't know as it will cost some money at least in the initial part." said Lillehammer supremo and former player Stig Bjørnes to the Norwegian fan site Jailhouse Rock.

"But this is so new now, we will come back to it later. The relegation will of course mean less sponsor money, while several players can be on their way out to clubs at a higher level."

Midfielder Lars Lundgren Torgersen and striker Mirco Simic earlier this season had been on trial with Tippeliga club.

FF Lillehammer

Lillestrøm.FFL were above the relegation zone ahead of the last league round, but met hard opposition in Kongsvinger who needed to win to gain promotion. It all started very well for our friends in Norway as they early went up to a 2-0 lead with Anders Hustad and Morten Granum which stunned the 4,500 in the stands.

But Kongsvinger shook off their nerves and managed to get to 2-2 before half time. Jonas Bergum brought Lillehammer back in the lead around the hour, but then KIL geared up again and got two quick goals to make it 4-3.

When bottom team Mercantile won 4-2 in their game they passed FFL on the table, Lillehammer ended third from bottom and were relegated to the 3rd. division, which is a giant step in the wrong direction.

The club will now have to sit down sit down and put together a package for next season, but the deal with Grimsby is now in question. END
