The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

A Matter of Trust

OVER the last couple of days it would appear that certain members of The Trust have been given information which, on the face of it, would suggest that the club are struggling to make ends meet.

Now this will come as no surprise to any Town fan.

What I find very difficult to accept is the cloud of secrecy which surrounds the board's dealings. Yes, I am mature enough and have enough business acumen to know that there will always be some information which is best kept within a chosen few.

If the impact of ITV Digital and subsequent relegation have left us on the brink then surely the supporters need to know NOW!

I am certain that if the club faces going to the wall then there are enough people within the Town who will fight to save it. To give the club renewed strength. To build a stronger future.

What is totally unacceptable is the silence and I, as a long term shareholder, hold a little bitterness towards members of the Trust who now tell us they know the situation but will not tell anyone. They seem to have developed a very superior attitude very quickly.

I would like the following questions answered;

  • Are the club in danger of going into administration?
  • What are the Directors doing to move the club forward in both the long and short terms?
  • Why are they failing to communicate with the fans?
  • Why are the shareholders not party to the situation the club find themselves in?
  • They, the Board, are custodians of the club. Why do they promote an image of superiority and show disdain to the paying public?
  • Why do the shareholders, season ticket holders and fans have to beg for information? A crumb of detail.
  • Why isn't the club conducting it's affairs in a transparent manner?
  • Surely secrecy only leads to rumours and scaremongering

Also I would ask the Trust the following:

As a member I assumed that you would be representing the views of the supporters. It seems following conversations in the last 24 hours that the Board members of the Trust have information however, they will only let their own members know what the club wants them to know.

Without wishing to give any backing to Humberstonmariner I am extremely concerned as to the apparent change in the Trust's aim. Working more closely with the club is one thing. Denying your members information is another.

Why oh why the silence and secrecy?

I, on behalf of the fans of this club demand a change in the information given out by the Club. WE ARE THE CLUB!! The board and the Trust will do well to remember this.
