ACCORDING to a feature in the Observer (10th October) Blundell Park is the 7th worst ground in the country. Effect best Sean Connery accent: "Surely shome mishtake Missh Moneypenny."
I will keep you guessing as to who could possibly have a worse ground but the admittedly not very scientific survey states of Blundell Park:
"Grimsby has the worst seating imaginable, with unbelievably bad views from some areas in the away end. Blundell Park has no redeeming features. It looks a complete tip, and they even increased the cost of a pie in the away end.
"It's a bit of a con. Blundell Park isn't in Grimsby at all, it's in Cleethorpes. You entertain notions of an attractive seaside town with a sandy beach and candyfloss but it's a ghost town where all the dogs in Lincolnshire congregate to make a mess on the seafront walk."
You will notice that it is bitter travelling supporters, probably smarting after a defeat, who decry our beloved home.
The 10 worst grounds according to the article are:
10: Stamford Bridge - Chelsea
9: National Hockey Stadium - MK Dons
8: Ninian Park - Cardiff
7: Blundell Park
6: Selhurst Park - Crystal Palace
5: Fratton Park - Portsmouth
4: Withdean Stadium - Brighton
3: Millmoor - Rotherham
2: Kenilworth Road - Luton
1: Priestfield - Gillingham
Living in Chesterfield I have to say that Saltergate is one of the few grounds that I have heard Grimsby fans openly laughing about the lack of facilities/ general state of the place but I am sure many people will be mentally creating their own top 10 list of worst grounds.
This site is by the fans, for the fans, and we will consider articles on any subject relating to the Mariners whether it be related to current news, a nostalgic look back in the past, a story about a player, a game or games in the past, something about Blundell Park or football in general.
