Slade Chasing Gritton!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 21/12/2004

LATEST reports today suggest that Russell Slade is hoping to either loan or sign Torquay United striker Martin Gritton, whose proposed move to Blackpool fell through.

Gritton could not agree personal terms and Blackpool manager, Colin Hendry, said; "We were given permission to speak with him, but we couldn't agree terms. It is frustrating. The deal fell down at the final hurdle."

Which may be bad news for Hendry but good news for Russell Slade, who is hoping to bring in a player before the Boxing Day game.

Gritton signed for Torquay after a short loan from Plymouth Argyle, and finished the 2002/2003 season as United's top goal scorer with 16 goals.

During the 2003/2004 season he was not first choice as, Gritton pointed out himself, that "David Graham is the master".

When Graham left the club, it was hoped that Gritton would become first choice again, but that has not happened and is probably the reason he is available.

It would seem unlikely that Slade could offer him better terms than Blackpool so a loan spell looks to be on the books if he can get him.
