Slade Gets Chairman's Backing

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 14/02/2005

TOWN Chairman John Fenty has given Grimsby manager Russell Slade his full backing, despite recent poor results. Grimsby's defeat at home to Shrewsbury on Saturday effectively ended any hopes of promotion, and the pressure is now building on the cash-strapped board to find a new manager.

"It is wrong for the media to speculate on the manager's position when they cannot talk accurately about the details of his contract," Fenty told Mariners Net.

"The board are 110 percent behind the manager. I can appreciate that the football isn't going right at the minute, but I really feel we are so close to winning.

"It's essential that everybody pulls together to put things right and that includes supporting the manager."

Slade was given a one year contract in the summer, with the option of a further year. It is understood that this means either party can end Slade's spell as manager with no compensation due to the former Scarborough boss - or, for that matter, the club.
