Continent 2026 World Cup winners?

Swansea 0 Grimsby 0

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/02/2005

GRIMSBY grabbed a well-earned point in Wales this afternoon, in a goalless draw with Swansea. The Mariners missed several good scoring chances, and generally created more clear openings than the home side, despite Swansea having the bulk of the play.

Russell Slade made several changes going into the game. Dropped were Andy Parkinson and Thomas Pinault; John McDermott failed a late fitness test, which meant that Jason Crowe returned to the starting line-up; Justin Whittle also returned after a long spell out through injury. Graham Hockless once again played from the start, on this occasion in the centre of midfield, as Town once again changed their formation - this time it was 3-5-2.

In the first half Grimsby had all the best chances and should have gone into the break with a couple of goals to their account. Reddy, Hockless, Crowe and Gritton all went close, with Grimsby also having at least two shots cleared off the line.

In the second half Swansea increasingly dominated the game, with the Welshmen causing several anxious moments for Town. But Grimsby continued to create chances on the break, with Reddy in particular a constant danger to the Swans.

In the end Town just about hung on for another point on their travels, which consolidates Grimsby's mid-table position in the league table.

A full report will appear later.
