Rambo Doubt for Boston

VERSATILE defender Simon Ramsden is a major doubt for Town's big Lincolnshire derby on Saturday at Boston. The 23-year-old defender went off with an ankle injury against Oxford at the weekend. With Town already down to the bare bones, another key player being out is the last thing they need.

Ramsden is normally a centre back, but in recent games the former Sunderland man has been filling in at right back, left back, or even midfield against the U's. Tony Crane is likely to start in place of Ramsden, with Russell Slade possibly being forced to return to a back three - depending on other injuries.

Town boss Russell Slade told the Grimsby Telegraph: "It's not looking too promising for 'Rambo' at the minute. His ankle is still sore after Saturday and forced him out of training. He is a massive doubt even at this early stage because his ankle is really swollen.

"Obviously, we'll see how he progresses this week, and not having a midweek match will help us on that front. But we won't know if he's got a realistic chance until the swelling goes down."

Jason Crowe (ankle) and Michael Reddy (groin) are both facing lay-offs following their injuries sustained in the defeat at Rochdale. Town were forced to bring in big Brentford forward Matt Harrold on a month's loan at the weekend to enable them to cope with the latest injury crisis.
