Humberside Ban Lifted?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 01/04/2005

THE dispute between Radio Humberside and Grimsby Town Football Club appears now to be resolved. At a meeting on Wednesday, Football League officials, representatives from the BBC and GTFC finally agreed to put the matter to bed.

It seems that the Football League accepted that the ban was not warranted but declined to give any information on other matters that were discussed.

It was also agreed that a joint statement would be issued following the meeting.

Now that was last Wednesday. It is now a week later and no statement has been issued informing the community that an agreement had been reached.

We have therefore decided to release the news in case the official statement does not appear until after the end of the season.

It will be good to see the club and Radio Humberside getting back to normal service. It has been a difficult time with both sides refusing to budge from their original stance.

It appears, from the length of the meeting, that it was not easy to find common ground from which to agree and it seems likely that some concessions had to be made in order to reach an amicable mutual solution.

Both sides showed good sense in getting together and settling the dispute in a business like manner and one would hope now that GTFC will grasp the opportunity to use the resources of the BBC to promote the campaign.
