Pinault to Snub Oxford?

By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 19/05/2005

FORMER Grimsby Town midfielder Thomas Pinault is unlikely to move to big-spending League Two rivals Oxford United, according to our sources. The flamboyant Frenchman is keen to play in a higher division after a year spent in and out of the Mariners' first team.

Although a move to the Kassam Stadium is still an outside possibility, we understand Pinault has his sights set on at least League One, despite reports in the press about an imminent move to the city of dreaming spires. Before coming to Blundell Park, the Gallic playmaker plyed his trade at Layer Road, Colchester, and his passing game is more suited to a higher division with more time on the ball.

Despite Pinault's popularity with the fans, the management team at Blundell Park decided not to offer the Frenchman a new contract. With last season's first choice central midfielder Terry Fleming also having been shown the door, Russell Slade's main priority in terms of new singings currently is in the centre of the park.
