Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Our County
Our County

Proud Of Lincolnshire?

There will most probably be more than a few who will be delighted at Lincoln losing their 3rd play off final in a row. But surely we should be bemoaning the fact that another Lincolnshire club has not been promoted.

There are some who will espouse the view that Grimsby is in North East Lincolnshire with Scunthorpe whilst Lincoln with Boston are in Lincolnshire. But one should remember that these divisions in the county were politically motivated to ensure the Labour party bunched their votes into one container. We are all Lincolnshire whichever end of the county we were born in.

Although I like Liverpool one could hardly call me an avid supporter, but when they are in Europe representing English football I am a Liverpool supporter. That same applies to Man Utd and any other team that is playing 'the foreigners'.

We all support England when they are playing in Internationals because of our national pride so surely that support should extend to any English club playing international matches and to our county too when a fellow Lincolnshire team is involved.

That does not mean we should not treat them as the opposition when they are either playing against us or competing for league positions. Just the opposite!

But when all that is over and done with they are our closest neighbours and part of our genetic lineage in some cases. You cannot get closer than that.

Personally I am sick of all the Yorkshire and London clubs grabbing all the limelight. We have four League football teams in Lincolnshire now and I hope we get a few more to help put Lincolnshire on the map of football.

Up the Mariners, Louth, Brigg, Gainsborough, Spalding, Horncastle, Spilsby and all.

Good luck to Scunthorpe United, who if the truth be told, deserved their promotion, not just for last season but for their consistency over the last 3 or 4, which has finally resulted in their move up.

What a pity that Lincoln failed again albeit in extra time. But let us be proud that a fellow Lincolnshire club got to the playoffs and another one got promoted. Rivals for sure, but brothers in arms too. We are all Lincolnshire.
