Forfar Reject Town Offer

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/06/2005

SCOTTISH Second Division side Forfar Athletic have rejected a bid from Grimsby Town for their star striker Paul Shields, who scored netted 24 goals for the Loons last season. The 23-year-old was signed for £100K by Celtic in 2000, but only made one substitute appearance at Parkhead before leaving.

"We received a bid from Grimsby for Paul Shields, but their offer was insulting quite frankly," Forar manager Brian Fairley told the club's web site. "Now it's down to Grimsby Town as far as Paul is concerned."

Russell Slade has indicated that he is still looking for another striker, to bring the complement of forwards in his 20 man squad to six.

  • Another of Russell Slade's targets is understood to be England semi-pro Captain Scott Kerr, who was at Scarborough under the Town boss. Lincoln and Barnet are also believed to be chasing the 24-year-old midfielder.

  • Former Grimsby Town 'keeper Anthony Williams has joined League Two newcomers Carlisle United on a two year contract. The ex-Hartlepool shot stopper was an ever-present at Blundell Park last season, and turned down an offer to stay at Blundell Park.
