Ian Straw1986/878 (3)0 goals

Looking at the players that have passed through Blundell Park over recent years, it is fairly doubtful that any of them will remain in the memory for more than a few months. John Thorrington...who`s he? A similar situation seems to have occurred during Mike Lyons tenure - in fact, during 1986/87 31 players wore the black and white stripes; few of them will go down in Mariners' folklore.

In fact, Ian Straw made several starts for Town, at centre back if I'm not mistaken. He was another young rough diamond, having been signed from Southampton. Only 19 or so, he won the young player of the year award as Town slid towards relegation.

Far more memorable than his naff name was his moustache and his bleached blonde hair as per the sponsors section in the programme.

After that, Ian Straw disappeared along with Pratt, Horwood and the like...into the twilight zone of Mike Lyons' rough diamonds. It is also possible these people live in a Hannah Hauxwell style cocoon, meeting new friends like Enzo Gambaro every now and again.

Next Player: Wayne Burnett
