Beat the Bookies: Week 26

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/01/2006

IT was my fault that Town didn't win at Torquay. I am on a losing streak at the moment which ensured that Town's "winner" wasn't to be as Beat the Bookies had backed it! This time next week, however, it could all look very different....

It's the FA Cup again this weekend which means there are only a handful of matches in the top two divisions. There are several possible upsets which stand out in the 4th Round, though. Everton at 5/1 are a good bet to beat a Chelsea side probably more interested in other competitions (I hope!). Arsenal have an awful away record, and Bolton are a generous 12/5 to topple the Gunners at the Reebok with bet365.com.

Other possibilities for upsets are the only League Two represntatives Cheltenham to do what Town failed to do and beat Newcastle. bet365.com offer 5/1 on a Cheltenham win. Finally Wolves are bound to give Man Utd a game at Molineux, and Paul Ince's boys are 13/2 to beat his former club.

Most importantly of all the League Two matches. It's starting to become the time of year when the clubs at the bottom lift their game as the spectre of relegation looms over teams. We unfortunately have seen this in Town's last two games, and we ourselves used to do at this time of the season to many a side aiming for promotion. Stockport are capable of getting a draw (3/1) or even a win (6/1 with bet365.com) at leaders Wycombe. Likewise Torquay can bag three points at Shrewsbury - whose season is drifting to a mid-table conclusion, available at 13/5 with bet365.com.

RECOMMENDED BET OF THE WEEK:
Cheltenham to beat Newcastle
