Fishy Player of the Year

AFTER a long successful campaign in the lowly depths of League Two, the Fishy can now announce their Player of the Season award to decide who was the readers' choice for the 05/06 season .

After much voting and deliberation it was ex-Notts County man Paul Bolland who picked up the accolade after a season of commitment and passion from the midfielder who joined Town in the summer. Bolland instantly became a fans' favourite and has impressed many doubters who had never really heard of 'Bolly'.

Bolland has hit home four goals in his forty one appearances and has been the backbone of the Mariners team. His undoubted willingness to win made Bolland a clear choice and an excellent signing by Russell Slade.

Bolland, who is contracted for another season at Blundell Park, picked up over 100 votes beating off tough competition from many peoples' favourite Rob Jones who picked up nearly 80 votes. Top scorer, Irishman Michael Reddy only picked up half of Bolland's total which will surely surprise many fans.

It also seems like Steve Mildenhall's mistakes towards the later part of the season cost him dear with him only picking up 25 votes along with ex-Tranmere man Gary Jones. It was then Ciaran Toner who picked up the wooden spoon of the six nominees with only 10 votes despite a solid season.

Though the star of the show was Paul Bolland he will surely agree with me in saying that a promotion winning season is the main priority and that should be the main thing on our minds.

So finally thank you to everyone who voted but remember it's not the awards that matter now it's three points at Cheltenham to keep us on course so let's make some noise and see the Mariners home to a huge prize - PROMOTION!
