Macca Offered New Deal

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/06/2006

GRIMSBY veteran John McDermott has been offered a new one year playing contract by the Town board. The 37-year-old, who has been at Blundell Park over twenty years, originally intended to make the 2005-2006 season his last, but changed his mind half way through it.

The club's record appearance holder has gone away to consider what the club have described as a "substantially improved" offer.

It has yet to be revealed what, if any, coaching role Macca will have under Graham Rodger's new managerial team.

Town chairman John Fenty told Mariners Net: "Obviously Macca has done very well for us over the years and last season was no exception. We have made him a very good offer and we hope that he will be a Grimsby Town player next season."

Graham Rodger, who signed Isaiah Rankin in a two year deal today, is hoping to secure a new goalkeeper this week in time to join the rest of the squad at a RAF boot camp starting on Sunday.
