Thorpe Loan Extended

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/10/2006

TONY Thorpe's loan from Stevenage has been extended by another month. The 32-year-old former Luton striker had been due to play his last game at Peterborough on Saturday, but the Mariners have persuaded the Conference club to let Town have Thorpe for a further month's loan.

The much-travelled striker joined Stevenage in the summer after having been released by Colchester in the at the end of last season. Thorpe only started one game for Borough before joining up with Graham Rodger at Blundell Park, and has yet to score for Grimsby.

Thorpe is not a prolific goal scorer, and has looked more a provider in his time at Blundell Park, in particular in the Hereford games when he set up Gary Jones for both goals.

In fact the last time Thorpe scored was for Swindon in August 2005, 32 games ago. In the 26 appearances prior to that Thorpe scored just once, giving a goal scoring record of 2 goals in 58 games (some of which to be fair he was a substitute).
