Beware Of Rumours!

By: Bill Osborne

CIARAN Toner, who is out of contract in the Summer, will be joining Notts County leaving Blundell Park for Meadow Lane. - Or so the story goes.

The Notts County fanzine "Notts County Mad" states that they are certain he will be making the move after undertaking 'further investigation'.

Other sites making the same claim reveal that it was 'picked up on message boards across the Midlands'.

I can recall a posting on the Fishy MB by someone claiming to have spoken to Steve Thompson, County's manager, and Thompson telling him Toner would be joining him in the Summer.

It seems likely that this posting started the rumours.

This rumour could be true or it could be a load of tosh.

My suspicion is that even if it is true, it seems unlikely that a manager would reveal that he has conducted illegal discussions with a player from another club, especially to a Fishy poster.

As stated previously, it could be true. But until there is official confirmation from either Notts County or Grimsby Town, I personally will be placing it in the same tray as the 'Beckham to join Scunny' and 'Aliens kidnapped my mother in law' stories.

One should be careful about rumours.

However if you are looking for the truth, I can confirm that Hull City are looking to sign Bolland.

City's manager was seen talking to Bolland at a petrol station on the M1 according to my source, the guy who claimed the aliens kidnapped his mother in law.

Honest Guv!
