North Crops Barnet to Size

GRIMSBY Town today entertained Barnet at Blundell Park. Danny North, sporting a new shaven headed haircut, scored a hatrick and put in a Man of the Match performance.

Town lined up 4-4-2 with Gary Jones and Danny North up front, Peter Till started on the right wing with a first start for youngster Ryan Bennett in place of Justin Whittle who was struggling with injury.

There was an old Grimsby Town loan player in the shape of Paul Warhurst playing at centre back for Barnet.

Town kicked off and went straight at Barnet with some quick and fluent passing moves, in particular both North and Bennett looking impressive.

The first real chance fell to Town with Paul Bolland heading powerfully wide from far out after good movement from Town. Shortly afterwards Danny North was through on goal but opted to square the ball instead of taking the ball forward and trying to beat the Barnet keeper and the chance had gone.

However it wasn't much longer before Town went ahead, a good accurate cross from Peter Till wide on the right was inch perfect for Gary Jones to powerfully head into the top corner without even having to jump.

Shortly after that it was 2-0. Good work by Nick Hegarty. who had earlier replaced the injured Ciaran Toner, resulted in the ball pushed though to Danny North who advanced and slid the ball under the Barnet 'keeper.

North had another opportunity to make it three nil before half time but his volley after good work by Town flew wide.

The second half followed with Town again producing passing and movement as good as anything they have been playing all season. North had another chance after a through ball by Boshell, however his powerful finish flew just over.

Peter Till had a good chance after a fine cross field pass by North which saw Till’s effort fly just wide of the post and Nick Hegarty had an effort well saved by the Barnet 'keeper after good work by Town.

However North made it 3-0 with a fine flicked finish after more good work by Town on the right.

Buckley decided to change things and replaced Macca with Bloomer at right back and took Peter Till off for Andy Taylor with Danny North switching to right back.

Town made it 4-0 when Nick Fenton headed in directly from a corner, then North had a chance to grab his hatrick.

A long ball from Town was taken away from a Barnet player by Andy Taylor who had a clear run on goal. Taylor opted to pass it wide for North in acres of space and time instead of trying to beat the keeper but North’s effort flew just wide.

However North grabbed his hatrick late on when Andy Taylor was knocked off the ball in the penalty area and North coolly scored from the spot.

In fairness the amount of chances Town created and how well they played meant they could have won it 7 or 8 nil.

MOM: Danny North, great all round display, scored a hatrick and has new haircut.
