Jones Signs for One More Year

Date: 09/05/2007

TOWN striker Gary Jones has been signed up for another season, his third at Blundell Park. The 31-year-old target man has had to settle for a place on the bench for much of the season, but Town boss Alan Buckley was happy to sign him for another year.

"We're delighted that Jonah has agreed to sign for another year", said the Town boss. "He's done really well for us and leads the line superbly. Not only that but he sets a great example to the young lads at the club with his professionalism."

Jones has never been the quickest of players, but is an effective target man, has a good touch, and is a better player than many give him credit for. The former Tranmere striker is also a good finisher, and has finished amongst the top scorers in his two seasons at the club - despite not playing for long spells.

The Mariners are hoping to announce another signing later this week.
