Town Draw Hatters

GRIMSBY have once again been handed a tough tie in the JPT trophy, having been drawn away at bogey side Stockport in January's semi final. Bury, who knocked out Leeds in the QF, will play Morecambe away in the other semi final. Town won the JPT trophy 10 years ago in their Wembley double season.

Town have not beaten Stockport in their last 7 attempts, only 2 of which they have managed a draw in. The two teams have never met in the JPT trophy or its predecessors.

Grimsby have already had a tough series of matches in the competition. In earlier rounds the Mariners have defeated strong League One opposition in the form of Huddersfield and Doncaster, plus in-form Rotherham from League Two at Millmoor.

Grimsby have already played or will play seven cup ties this season, the most they have been involved in since their annus mirabilis campaign of 1997-1998. They have a long way to go though to emulate the achievements of that season, in which they played a staggering 19 cup ties, plus 3 play-off matches in addition to the regulation 46 league games.

The bookies favour all four teams in the Southern Section of the competition, with Swansea being the favourite to lift the trophy. This year the final will be played at Wembley stadium.

The full draw is as follows:

Northern Section:

Stockport v Grimsby
Morecambe v Bury

Southern Section:

Swansea v Brighton
Gillingham v MK Dons

Ties to be played over the week commencing January 7.
