Three New Signings

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/01/2008

STRIKER Martin Butler has signed for Grimsby as agreed when his loan from Walsall in October was arranged. Although Butler has failed so far to be the answer to Grimsby's goalscoring problems, the goal at Stockport aside, Alan Buckley clearly believes his man will eventually come good.

In other news:

  • Rob Atkinson's loan spell from Barnsley has been today extended by a further month. Atkinson and Hird, whose loan has also been extended, have made a huge difference to the defence since their arrival in October when Town's results also began to pick up.

  • Striker Nathan Jarman`s contract has been extended into the New Year. The ex-Barnsley forward has been on a month-to-month contract with the Mariners since he originally signed in September. Very much a squad player so far, Jarman has been restricted to just two substitute performances, and the signing of Butler has placed him further down the pecking order.

Alan Buckley is still considering further strengthening his squad with the arrival of the January transfer window but has no firm targets, saying: "I am always on the look out to bring good players to this club. There is nothing specific at the moment, but who knows."

There is no sign of any outward activity of players yet. There had been speculation that Peterborough may sign left back Tom Newey, but the signing of Wycombe left back Tom Williams by Posh has presumably quashed any move for Newey.
